Loot Goblins Season 2

Propmaster and Set Decorator

Serving as the Propmaster and Set Decorator for this season of Loot Goblins my creative muscles really got a work out. From managing the creation and repair of the set and props, to coming up with on the fly solutions for roadblocks to keep the show going. I got to put my entire suite of knowledge gained over my career to work.

ROLE

Creating the Sets

I worked with the production designer of the show to bring the rough drafts and concepts of each level to life. Each set posed its own unique challenges in bringing it to life, be it the difficulty of creating a hay floor in a warehouse that needed to last for months, or creating a forest indoors that required no upkeep. Each challenge presented required creative problem solving. For the hay floor we found that using a spray adhesive in thin coats while fluffing the hay on the ground got it to stick in clumps. For the forest we used cotton batting and fabric to add texture to the plants on the walls and floor to add depth without needing to spend an enormous amount of time and money on greenery.

Proping it out

Every game needs things for the players to interact with and that is where I as the propmaster, lead weapons/environment artists in video game terms, come in. Having worked with the production designer to help create the sets I was able to quickly understand what assets would be needed for the players of the game to be able to fully interact with each other and the levels they inhabited. I created a list of assets that would be necessary for each game and assigned the task of creating them to members of my team. I ensured that each assetcould take a beating and if one should break that it could be easily repaired while keeping the show on schedule.

Keeping it all on Schedule

Working with the over 200 assets that we had for the show necessitated keeping a tight schedule on creation of those assets as well as their repair. I created a living list of all assets and their current status as well as their expected completion date and kept it up to date for the run of show. With this asset list seeing potential issues with deadlines and possible roadblocks for the production became easy and I quickly got ahead of issues before they could effect the show.
